Yes, children learn a great deal from their parents yet, having additional education professionals through an online homeschool portal will assist greatly. Especially, when the areas of subject matter become more complex. After all, homeschooling is the act of teaching a child at home rather than sending them to school. It doesn’t mean that you have to carry all the burden.   • The only requirements to legally homeschool in Texas are that:
    • The instruction must be “bona fide” – IE. authentic & sincere
    • The curriculum must be in visual form
    • The curriculum must include the basic subjects of reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship.

    Your child may also be taught in another family’s home or you may use a tutor for instruction.

    The courts have determined that Texas homeschools are private schools for the purpose of compulsory attendance. Therefore, homeschools are not regulated, do not require teacher certification or third-party curriculum approval, and are exempt from compulsory attendance laws.

  • Currently, Texas is well known as one of the freest states to homeschool. Texas doesn’t make homeschool families get bogged down in red tape.  Plus, Texas homeschooled students continue to excel academically and to be pursued by colleges and universities.
  •  Each parent/guardian must decide which curriculum is best for their child and then purchase the curriculum on their own.(Here is our curriculum)
  • Students in home study programs shall be subject to an appropriate nationally standardized testing program administered in consultation with a person trained in the administration and interpretation of norm-referenced tests. The student must be evaluated at least every three years beginning at the end of the third grade.
  • In the case your child is or was recently has been enrolled in a Texas public school, you must officially withdraw them.

    If the district requests more information or asks for you to come to the school to fill out paperwork, you are not legally required to go to the school in person.  According to the TEA, “TEA does not regulate, index, monitor, approve, register, or accredit the programs available to parents who choose to homeschool. You do not need to call us to let us know that you intend to home-school; however, you do need to contact the school where your child is currently enrolled in order to formally withdraw them. Your school may require an informational “letter of assurance” about your decision, but withdrawing your child from homeschooling is your decision. For additional information on homeschooling instead, send a letter of assurance, which explains that the child is to attend homeschool.

You can choose from a variety of options like private tutors or online schools, or even do it yourself with help from a curriculum like ours! You can even start out with just one subject until your child has mastered it before moving on to another subject. If you decide to homeschool your children, there are several things you should keep in mind. First, get an official homeschooling certificate from your county school board. The certificate will tell other parents that your child is indeed being educated within the state of Texas and will help avoid any confusion about what kind of education your child is receiving.
