Proficiency Level Descriptors
The ELL Edition includes five language difficulty levels used to offer resources that match each student’s skills and abilities.
Level 1

- Ability to apply common vocabularies.
Level 2

Level 4
- Ability to use and recognize a variety of complex sentences in oral discourse.
- Ability to use and understand written English with instructional support.
- Ability to use various specialized and technical vocabulary.
Level 5
- Ability to use and understand a range of linguistically complex sentences in oral discourse.
- Ability to use and understand written language proxy to English peers.
- Ability to use specialized and technical vocabulary at grade level.
